How client referrals work at held

When someone reaches out looking for a therapist, we do the work of finding the right match

Here is how that process works, what to expect when an enquiry comes your way, and what we ask of you in return.

What happens before you hear from us

Every enquiry goes through a quiet matching process before it reaches you. You do not need to know the detail, but it helps to understand the thinking behind it.

When an enquiry lands, we work through the following:

• Has the client asked for a specific therapist? If so, we go to them first.

• Have they asked for a particular type of therapy or modality? We match on that too.

• We work through our membership tiers to find the right practitioner, with Emergent members receiving enquiries first as part of the community's commitment to supporting practitioners who are growing their practice.

• Once we have a good match, we get in touch with you directly.

In short, here is what we ask of you

• Respond to referral emails promptly and let us know whether you have space.

• Offer a free introductory call or session before committing to ongoing work.

• Contact the client within 48 hours of receiving their details.

• Share the date of the first session with Gavin once it is booked.

• Pay the £80 referral fee if the client reaches session four.

• Refer clients back to held if the work ends before session four.

About the referral fee

The referral fee is £80, invoiced as a one-off per client at the point they reach their fourth session with you. If the client ends before session four, for any reason, no fee is owed and nothing is invoiced.

Once the first session date is logged with Gavin, he tracks the milestone and sends the invoice at the right time. The fee only applies once a referral has genuinely led to ongoing work. It is designed to feel proportionate, not punitive.
