A therapy centre you can refer to with confidence
If you work with people who need psychological support, whether that is as a GP, a psychiatrist, an occupational health practitioner, an HR professional, or a school counsellor, held offers a straightforward, professionally run referral pathway.
We are based in Haywards Heath and serve adults across Mid Sussex. Every referral is coordinated personally by Gavin Demurger-Jones, our Counsellor and Centre Director and a qualified counsellor, who ensures each person is matched with the most appropriate practitioner from our team.
What makes held different
Human oversight of every referral
Referrals do not disappear into a system. Gavin coordinates each one and responds directly, usually within 24 hours.
A team with genuine breadth
Our practitioners cover anxiety and depression, trauma and complex PTSD, couples and relationship difficulties, ADHD and neurodiversity, grief and bereavement, and burnout.
Primary care experience
One of our practitioners has worked directly with GP surgeries in Mid Sussex and has held primary care counselling contracts. We understand the pressures of general practice.
A professional environment
held operates from a dedicated therapy centre at 7 Hazelgrove Road, Haywards Heath. Our rooms are private, properly equipped, and purpose-built for clinical work.
BACP and UKCP registered practitioners
All therapists at held are qualified, insured, and registered with a recognised professional body.
A note for GPs
When you refer to held:
• Your patient will be contacted promptly and matched to a practitioner suited to their presentation
• All our practitioners work within the ethical frameworks of their professional body, including safeguarding and risk
• If a patient presents with risk that exceeds what we can safely hold in a private setting, we will communicate that clearly
• We do not take on presentations that fall outside our clinical competence
Who we work with
held works with adults aged 18 and over. We do not currently offer child or adolescent therapy. We offer face to face therapy at our Haywards Heath centre. A small number of our practitioners also offer online sessions.
How to refer
The referral process is handled through our website. Your patient visits our Find a Therapist page, tells us a little about what they are looking for, and our team takes it from there.
If you would prefer to make initial contact on behalf of your patient, get in touch directly via our website. We do not require a formal referral letter.
Supporting your workforce
If you work in occupational health or HR and are looking for a therapy provider for employees, held can help. Employees self-refer through our website and everything from that point is handled confidentially between them and their therapist.
